Breakout Discussion: “We Are The Salt of The Earth”

In our new Bible series entitled Identity, we began by learning more about Who we are in Christ Jesus. Tonight, we aim to have a deeper discussion about the application of our Identity In Christ Jesus as the salt of the earth. But before we begin, let us pray. (Heavenly Father, we thank You for all the blessings we have in Christ Jesus. Now Lord teach us so that by the revelation of Jesus we might understand how to be the salt of the earth. This we ask in Jesus name. Amen.

Breakout Passage(s):

Matthew 5:13 KJV

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.Breakout Questions:

Q1: Jesus told his disciples, “You are the salt of the earth”. While we know salt has a distinct flavor, we learned that salt is also used as a preservative. Because we are “the salt of the earth”, how can we as true followers of Jesus, bring God’s preserving nature to those we are in relationship with? (Read each verse and discuss how each one gives us insight into how we might walk in our Kingdom identity in practical way as “the salt of the earth” bringing God’s preserving nature to those around us.)
