Breakout Discussion: “Faith to Win With God & Follow Jesus”
Sunday’s message, Winning With God was about building our faith as believers to understand that winning our families to Jesus should never come at the expense of compromising our personal walk with Christ. Jesus let’s us know in Matthew 19:26, “with men this is impossible” but “With God, All Things Are Possible”. Tonight, we look at several very important questions that we pray will help renew our wine-skin (“mind-skin”) so we lay hold of the hope we have in God’s power to save our family and children if we only keep the faith and follow Jesus. Before we begin, let us pray.
Breakout Passage(s):
Read the passage. Then discuss the questions
Matthew 10:34-38 KJV
[34] Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
[35] For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
[36] And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
[37] He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
[38] And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
Breakout Questions:
Q1: How does following Jesus sometimes cause difficulties in family relationships? (Can we speak to worry, doubt, variations of self-denial; spiritual growth & maturity?)
Q2: What kinds of lies does the enemy present to parents to get them to believe there is no hope for their children ever coming to Christ? (Be specific. You may want to make notes for prayer points later.)
Speaking of Paul, we see how God interrupted Saul’s life and made a believer out of him even though he was a persecutor of the church, and he later became a preacher of the gospel. Read and discuss the following verses to build your faith in God for what is possible.
Proverbs 11:21 KJV
Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
Matthew 5:43-44 KJV
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. [44] But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
James 5:16 KJV
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Q3: Because God has already promised that the seed of the righteous will be saved, what level of significance does this have now on your personal walk with Christ?
Let us pray!
Benediction: Jude 1:24-25
